the story

In January 2009 T-Mobile Austria launched the T-Mobile G1, the first mobile phone worldwide based on the open source operating system Android. Open source system means everyone can develop applications for Android handsets and sell them on the Android Application Market. At the first Austrian Android Developers Day, A2D2 on May 7th T-Mobile brought developers together to share their knowledge.

More than 150 Android fans from all over Austria attended the A2D2 at the T-Mobile headquarter in Vienna. After the official welcome, CEO Robert Chvátal & CTO Jim Burke (T-Mobile) announced the T-Mobile A2D2 Applications Contest. Afterwards the Android-Experts Christoph Schaffer & Andreas Jakl (both FH Hagenberg) delivered a first insight in developing with Android. Later Philipp Breuss (Mobilizy), Christian Vogt (Sengaro) & Andreas Ipp (OpenIntents), all finalists of the Google Developer Challenge in 2008, showed the manifold possibilities with Android with their applications Wikitude, Mobeedo & OpenIntents.

In the following Tech Sessions the program of the A2D2 Event entered the full world of Android. The participants had to choose from more than 10 Tech Sessions in 5 Streams: Getting started with Android, Android Development, Location-based Services, Android Applications and Android Topics & Trends.
